100th Post

In the scheme of things 100 posts is pretty piffling as compared to many serious bloggers, but for me it’s a bit of a milestone. If you look back over the years going back to 2013 when I started off the blog I made a few posts and then it all when quiet, then another post about restarting the blog and then deafening silence then seemingly a bit of rinse and repeat for the next few years. There were a number of reasons for setting up the blog and looking back over those ninety nine posts I can see that I was at best erratic and worst a bit of a flanneler, but the main focus was to get myself modelling at least for fifteen minutes a day, hence the name of the blog that came to me in a blinding flash. Best laid plans an’ all were then completely chucked out window this was partly due to the environmental conditions of my then abode but also I was struggling to focus on a modelling project that I could see through to some conclusion. One of my biggest failings is that I am far too distracted by the new shiny, and I had in my mind at least four project layouts in varying scales and sizes that in reality were never really going to make it off the drawing board. Step forward to this year and I took the decision to do an inventory of all my railway estate and work out in what direction I wanted to go in, a narrowing down of the scope in project lingo, and I was left with the decision to concentrate on N scale in both 2FS and also Kato pseudo meter gauge Swiss RhB “stuff”. Everything else was to be got rid of on that wonderful online auction site. Funnily enough I thought that it would be a wrenching task that would leave me feeling that I really shouldn’t get rid of things that might come in handy in years to come or in fact anything, but in practice it was freeing, cathartic some might say. It has been my intention for some time to downsize the possessions and live a more focus life. I might of said before, why does anyone need seven soldering irons?! but I digress from the point of this post.

With this new found direction I realised that it would actually make blogging much easier. Rather than the scatter gun approach previously used I could now concentrate on at most two projects at once and not be side tracked into things I know I wont ever build. It also helps me concentrate on the plan in hand and map out what needs to happen over the the forth coming months. It also helps me map out other content for the blog so I am not struggling to find topics to write about.

Now I have a much better and stronger vision of how I want to take this web diary forward and to that end I am moving this blog over to its own domain where it can grow. Not that for five years it hasn’t been well accommodated on WordPress.com and it was an excellent starting point with no strings and no management needed for someone with no blogging experience. But the obverse was that there was no customisation allowed, no control over the look and feel of the blog and now I would like to be able to make some changes that I think will help me improve the content. It is a bit of a leap into this brave new world but it’s good to be learning new things and keeping the grey matter active.

From this post on this site will be mothballed but I will keep it active in case there’s someone who stumbles over it in the future, however from today onwards you will find my blog and modelling adventures over at
